Staff Transition at Pres House: A special announcement from Ginger Morgan, PhD

March 26, 2026

Dear Pres House Community,

In the summer of 2012 my family and I packed up a house in Colorado Springs, CO and moved to Madison so I could serve as the first Director of Residential Community at Pres House Apartments. Over the next decade Pres House supported and encouraged my work to build opportunities and programs that benefit the residents of Pres House Apartments. In 2018 Pres House invited me to help shape a new enterprise to support student wellness at UW Madison, and in 2019 Candid was launched. I cannot quite capture how rare it is to work for an organization that is simultaneously mission-aligned, stable and secure, and willing to embrace creativity and try new things. Being part of this work has been both remarkable and satisfying.

I accepted the position at Pres House in 2012 because I believed (and still do) that I was called here for a purpose. After fourteen years of service at Pres House, I am being called to new work in a new place and in a new role. I will be leaving my position at Pres House on June 30, 2026.

Beginning July 1st, I will serve as an Associate Professor of Pastoral and Spiritual Care and the Director of the Interreligious Chaplaincy Program at United Theological Seminary of the Twin Cities. In this role I’ll be training graduate students interested in becoming chaplains and pastors. My campus ministry work at Pres House, and my previous work in mental health crisis work, hospice chaplaincy and hospital chaplaincy have provided foundational experiences to draw from as I teach and mentor the next generations of chaplains. Having earned my PhD in Pastoral Theology in 2010, I didn’t expect a call to a faculty position this late in my career. That said, I’m delighted to join the faculty at United and use both my professional and academic training to help build a strong and relevant program that equips both chaplains and pastors to provide care and guidance to people experiencing challenging life experiences and transitions.

It has been an unspeakable honor and privilege to have worked alongside some of the most dedicated and talented professionals I’ve ever known. I have been enriched and encouraged by the thousands of students who have come through the doors at Pres House Apartments, Pres House church, and Candid. Working with young adults has been a lively, challenging, and rewarding experience. I have immense trust in Pres House and its uncanny capacity to call and find the right people to serve in the right roles at the right time. This is my prayer for whomever comes next: that they will be a blessing to the Pres House community and the community and work of Pres House will be a blessing to them.

This work and each person I’ve come to know and work with have been a blessing to me. Thank you for being part of the blessings of my life.

Gratefully,
Ginger Morgan, PhD
Director of Candid and Community Initiatives

From the Executive Director and Pastor:

Ginger’s impact on Pres House has been both substantial and lasting. From her early leadership in shaping the residential community at Pres House Apartments to her vision and direction in launching Candid, she has helped expand how we support student wellness at UW-Madison. Her work has strengthened our capacity to offer meaningful connection, thoughtful programming, and responsive care to students navigating complex and formative seasons of life.

We are grateful that Ginger’s next chapter will continue to serve others in meaningful ways. While we will miss her presence here, we are confident that her leadership and experience will be a gift to the students and communities she will serve. We will have a celebration to send Ginger off to the Twin Cities in June; more details will follow.

Grace and Peace,
Rev. Erica Liu
