SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: BWAP 2019

Break With A Purpose: January 5-12th, 2019 (Deadline to apply is November 18th)

This year we will be headed to San Antonio for two purposes – to learn about the complex issue of immigration and to serve in repairing substandard housing.

Why Immigration?
Scripture is full of God’s command for us to welcome the stranger and care for the alien (Leviticus 19:33-34; Matthew 25:35; Ruth). In the United States, immigration has become a contentious issue with many policies being enacted by the government. In San Antonio, we will see firsthand the impact on people’s lives as we learn about untold stories of the Alamo City, the spectrum of immigration and responses, social dynamics of multiple cultures colliding, the importance of trauma-informed care, and more.

Serve
During the second half of our trip, we will partner with Blueprint Ministry in their mission to serve the elderly, physically disabled, and low income homeowners of San Antonio by rebuilding, renovating and improving substandard housing.

Mandatory Meetings
Sunday, December 2nd ~ 7:00 – 9:00 PM
Sunday, December 9th ~ Team Commissioning at Worship, 4:30 – 5:30 PM
Sunday, January 27th ~ Team Sharing in Worship

Travel & Accommodations
We will be flying from O’Hare International Airport in Chicago to San Antonio. For those in Madison, we will take a bus to the airport. If you want to make separate travel arrangements, please speak to Pastor Erica. We will be staying and eating most meals at the retreat facilities of Blueprint Ministry.

Cost
$300 payment is due with your registration; once plane tickets have been purchased, payments are nonrefundable. The total cost of this trip is about $800/person. Thanks to the generous support of donors, Pres House is able to subsidize a significant amount. If you are able to contribute more, we welcome you to give generously.

Skills
No special skills are required, however if you some Spanish language skills and/or have some basic knowledge of construction, those are helpful.
